Scott Township Public Library is pleased to present "Observing the Moon for Beginners" by Larry McHenry. This group is intended for teens and adults. Registration opens May 5, 2025 and is requested no later than June 3, 2025.
This informational presentation is an introduction to our nearest neighbor. The Moon is one of the favorite objects of stargazers.
The moon is one of the brightest, easiest, and closest celestial objects to find. We'll learn about the Moon’s phases and what features you can see with binoculars or a small telescope, along with a lunar mythology from around the world. Perhaps the next time you look at the Moon, you will see it as another world, in some ways similar to our own, but in many important ways completely different.
After the presentation, weather permitting, there will be an outdoor observing session with a small telescope to observe the Moon. Adults and teens welcomed!
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania resident Larry McHenry has been active in amateur astronomy for over 40 years, and is a member of the Kiski Astronomers, and the Oil Region Astronomical Society (ORAS), both in Western Pennsylvania. One of Larry's favorite astronomical activities is learning about the historical forefathers of today's amateur astronomers, and observing their deep-sky objects.
